Summer is Here. The Cubs Open Today

A new season and all the hope that comes with it. Soon to be dashed by the reality that the Cubs will not once again win a World Series. The World Series this year will be the 102nd anniversary of the last time the Cubs won.

103 Years and Counting

Cubs Pitchers and Catchers Report Tomorrow

For a few weeks at least Cubs fans can be optimistic about the upcoming season. At least until the season starts the Cubs have a chance to break the 100+ years of futility.

Former Cub Andre Dawson elected into Baseball Hall of Fame

THE HAWK IS IN THE HALL.

After nine appearances on the ballot, former Cubs outfielder Andre Dawson got the call he has been waiting for today when he was voted into the National Baseball Hall of Fame.

Dawson played 21 seasons but fell short—by 62—of the magical number of 500 home runs. Belting 500 no longer carries the meaning it used to, and voters seem to be willing to give another hard look at stars from the pre-Steroid Era.

Playing in an era when hitting 20 home runs meant you were a power hitter, Dawson topped 20 homers 13 times. He drove in 100 or more runs four times. And he hit better than .300 five times. Not bad for a five-tool player who won eight Gold Gloves and is one of three players who has 400 home runs and 300 stolen bases.

Cubs promote Sandberg to manage Triple-A Iowa

Lou has to be seeing Ryno in his rear-view mirror. Have a

good season Lou or else.

INDIANAPOLIS -- The Cubs promoted Hall of Fame second baseman Ryne Sanderg today, naming him manager of their Triple-A Iowa team.

The Cubs had a vacancy at Triple-A when Iowa manager Bobby Dickerson took a job as a roving minor-league infield coordinator and Latin American field coordinator for Baltimore

Sandberg led Double-A Tennessee to the Southern League championship series in his first year managing the Smokies, following two seasons at Class-A Peoria. While he's on record as saying his goal is to someday manage the Cubs, Lou Piniella may have thrown a fly in the ointment by hinting he wants to stay beyond the 2010 season.

Piniella joked today that he's going to get a 15-year extension. Whether or not Sandberg would be first in line for Piniella's job is unknown, though he'd certainly be a candidate if Piniella left after 2010.

How long Sandberg intends to wait on a major league managing job is another story altogether.

Cubs Dump Milton Bradley

CUBS ACQUIRE SILVA FROM THE MARINERS
The Chicago Cubs acquired right-hander Carlos Silva and cash from the Mariners on Friday in exchange for outfielder Milton Bradley. Silva, who has two years and $25 million left on his four-year deal, was 4-15 in 28 starts in 2008 and 1-3 with a 8.60 ERA in eight games (six starts) last season.

Bradley, who has two years and $21 million remaining on his deal, batted .257 with 12 homers and 40 RBIs for the Cubs this season.

This is obviously a situation where there were looking for a player with a similar contract so they could dump Bradly who was a big distraction in the club house. Not sure I would rather pay a guy that money who is 4-15 but maybe a change in scenery will help him.

Jon Stewart and John Oliver Call Cub Fans Stupid

The undecided voter is made up of about 45% stupid  people and a segment of those are Cubs Fans.  I am crushed I am still licking my wounds from the awful playoffs and Jon kicks us while we are down.  I thought Jon would feel my pain.

Cubs are out @#%$*&

If I was better at graphics the armband on the right would be across the title or the whole page.  But here it is my outward sign of mourning.  I will remain a Cubs fan (like I have a choice) but I will hurt for a while.

Ok so maybe I believe now that the Cubs will make the playoffs.

The Cubs clinched a week ago but being a life long Cubs fan I wasn't completely sure there wasn't some way for them to blow it.  Playoffs start Wednesday with a bunch of late games.  Saturday's game doesn't start until 10:00 eastern.  Bummer that means some late nights and means that my son probably won't see any of the game.

Say it ain't so!!

At times it has felt like it but I don't really think it is true.

But if were going to set the fortunes of the Cubs over the last 100 years or so and you were pure evil would it look a lot different from what has happened?
