Today's all Sports edition continues Scottie Pippen elected to Hall of Fame

Pippen is elected to Basketball Hall of Fame. He was a great player the Bulls would have had a much harder time winning the championships they won without him. I am a big Michael Jordan fan but he couldn't have done it without Scottie.

Have you seen this? synchronized flushing to be medal sport in 2014

Someone charted water use (apparently toilet flushes was not politically correct enough) in a Canadian town during the goal medal game in the Olympics. A nation that flushes together is had to beat. Maybe synchronized flushing will be a medal sport in 2014.

MJ is in the Hall

I am a big MJ fan and have been forever. I am a Bulls fan and enjoyed Michael's years playing in Chicago. Many are saying his speech was self centered and he didn't give enough credit to his teammates.

Yes.

Have you ever heard Micheal Jordan.

This is him in pure form you either love him or you don't. He worked his a$$ off to be the person he became. While he couldn't have done it without teammates they NEVER would have done any of it without him.

ESPN has a Gallery of photos that are great.

Thanks for everything Michael (except for maybe the time spent playing baseball)!!

GO GREEN!!!!!!

Bobby Knight, after living a full life, died. When he got to heaven, God was showing him around. They came to a modest little house with a faded Indiana University flag in the window. "This house is yours for eternity, Bob," said God. "This is very special; not everyone gets a house up here."

Bob felt special indeed, and walked up to his house. On his way up the porch, he noticed another house just around the corner.. It was a 3-story mansion with a bright Green and White sidewalk, a 50 foot tall flagpole flying an enormous Michigan State flag, and in every window, a Spartan logo. In the front yard was a sign that said "Welcome to the Izzone". Bob looked at God and said "God, I'm not trying to be ungrateful, but I have a question. I won three national championships, more Big Ten titles than I can remember and I am the winningest coach in IU basketball history." God said "so what do you want to know, Bob?" "Well, why does Tom Izzo get a better house than me?" God chuckled, and said "Bob, that's not Tom's house....... .it's mine."

MSU Spartans Win again

The Michigan State University Men's basketball team beat Kansas today. The team is starting to look really good. The have won 9 in a row and are undefeated in the Big Ten. College Basketball may be the best sport to watch. And having a MSU team that has a chance to do well is lots of fun.

Tom Izzo the MSU coach is one of the best coaches in the country. Since he has been head coach 13 years every 4 year player on his team has gone to the Final Four. An amazing accomplishment.

GO MSU.

No!!

The Cubs go down 0-2.  Can't pitch or hit and unbelievably every infielder makes an error in last night's game.  Hard to imagine winning three straight.

Maybe 100 years of pressure is just too much.

Maybe next year no century.

A sad day.

Cubs survive my Jinx to win pennant

So I have decided to 'fess up to my weird superstition.  I do not wear team apparel for a team I want to win on the day they are playing.  I really think that the teams lose almost every time I do this.  I once told my brother about this and he has the same superstition.

Anyway, a few weeks ago I wore my Cubs hat for a couple of days.  The cubs were running away with things and I thought it was safe.  What happened?  The immediately lost 8 of 9 games.

Last Friday the Cubs magic number was 1 and they were almost certain to clinch and I wore my Cubs tie to work.  Of course they got smacked around by St. Louis and and didn't clinch after all.  So I have put my stuff away until the end of October.  By then the Cubs should be World Series Champs and I can wear it without any risk.

On Saturday I did not wear any Cubs gear (or MSU and they beat Notre Dame!!!) and the Cubs clinched the Pennant.

Go Cubs.

Zambrano saves the day with an assist from Ike

The Cubs are in the middle of their worst slump of the season and their pitchers can't get anybody out.  And all of a sudden a hurricane wipes out half of Texas.  My thoughts and prayers go out to those effected by Ike and what I say here is not meant to be litle the effects there.

The Cubs get an extra couple of days rest and then move the games to their back yard.  And in the first game Carlos Zambrano thows a no hitter.  Perhaps there is a God and for once he is working for the Cubs instead of against them.

Cubs Losing but still still ahead?

The Cubs have lost 7 of the last 8 games but are still up by 4 1/2 games.  Are the pitching problems the beginning of the end or a hiccup on the way to the playoffs?  They have to get their pitching together to do anything in the playoffs.  So even if they win their division if the pitchers don't get it together it won't matter.

It looks like Harden and Zambrano and Dempster should be strong in the end and resting them some now is a good strategy especially since they have managed to stay ahead of Milwaukee and rest the big pitchers some.  Will they each put together a strong start or two before the end of the season?  That will be the true test going into the playoffs.

Bears look better than expected

The Bears beat the Indianapolis Colts Sunday night and looked much better than expected.  Their defense was great and they had a quarterback that moved the team a little.  Most importantly Kyle Orton didn't do anything to lose the game.  He looked solid and confident.  Not seen in a Bears quarterback in over a decade.

Matt Forte looked amazing.  A solid dependable running back who can get hard yards up the middle and has the speed to break away.

All in all an excellent start for the Bears against a team they were not supposed to beat.  Next week another away game against Carolina.  The Bears will probably be the underdog again but they may like that.

Is it time to Panic

The Cubs have lost 4 in a row.  I have talked all summer about the inevidable crash.  Is this is?  I really hope not.  The play a bunch of games against over 500 teams and away from home.  Zambrano is hurt.  I am not panicing yet but I am getting more worried.

Cubs are 32 games over 500 and 5 games up in the NL Central and have the Best record in baseball. They will almost certainly be in first place on Labor Day. Again being a life long Cubs fan this is good news and bad news. The possibility is that the crash could be even bigger than ever before. I am pretty amazed that Milwaukee has hung in as well as then have. I wish the Cubs would put some distance between themselves and the Brewers.

Meanwhile the cubs play has been amazing. The Rookie of the Year (Soto) and several candidates for the Cy Young award and Maybe an MVP if the votes don't get split among the viable candidates.

The way they have won games is absolutely amazing. Winning late and scoring runs from every position in the lineup. It has been a great year to be a Cubs fan and almost makes the years of misery worth it. But anything less than a world series win will be a let down at this point. Once every 100 years even the Cubs have to win the world series.

Cubs success good news and bad news

I am very worried! I am starting to believe that this may be the year. Once a century even the Cubs ought to win the world series. The Cubs last won the world series in 1907 and 1908. By far the longest time between championships. The scary part is that I am starting to think they actually might win it all this year. Which will make the nearly inevitable crash all the more devastating. Cub fans are used to heart break but thinking that there is a possibility that this may really be their year is rather confusing.

Pitchers and Catchers Report Wednesday

Of course this is for the Cubs. Does when any other team reports really matter?

This is the year. The Cubs will celelbrate the 100 anniversity of their last championship with a world series win.

One every 100 years is not too much to ask.

MSU Basketball

We have tickets for MSU Basketball game tonight. Saturday's game was a huge disappointment but it will probably make them a better team. Hope we see some of the results of that tonight. Not withstanding the loss Saturday, this is the first real Big Ten test for MSU.
